Yellow Tree Monitors for Sale

Varanus reisingeri

The Yellow Tree Monitor displays brilliant yellow green coloration with contrasting black bands, creating a striking appearance that intensifies as they mature. Endemic to Misool Island in Raja Ampat. The more compact adult size makes them appealing to keepers who want the intelligence and beauty of a tree monitor but have moderate space constraints or prefer working with a slightly more manageable animal. Found in forests from sea level to the low foothills of Misool, they're perfectly adapted for arboreal life with their long prehensile tails and strong climbing abilities. Their golden coloration becomes richer and more vibrant with age, proper nutrition, and quality UVB exposure.

We produce captive bred Yellow Tree Monitors right here in our facility. Every animal is hatched and raised in optimal conditions, feeding well on varied diets, and arrives to you healthy, parasite free, and already acclimated to captive life. You get our health guarantee, detailed care protocols, and direct access to our breeding team.

Common Questions

About Yellow Tree Monitors

Adult Yellow Tree Monitors reach up to 32 inches total length. Approximately 60% of their length is their prehensile tail, with snout to vent length measuring 12 inches at maturity. They reach full adult size around 24 months with consistent feeding and proper housing.

Yellow Tree Monitors require intermediate to advanced care despite their smaller size. They still demand precise humidity control (70 to 80%), appropriate temperature gradients, substantial vertical enclosures, high output UVB lighting, and daily maintenance. The care requirements are identical to larger tree monitor species, they're simply housed in a slightly more compact body. We recommend prior experience with arboreal reptiles or smaller monitor species before acquiring any tree monitor. Their smaller size makes them slightly less intimidating to work with but doesn't reduce the complexity of their husbandry needs.

Yellow Tree Monitors is a species distinguished by their brilliant yellow green coloration with contrasting black bands and their status as the smallest tree monitor species. They're endemic to Misool Island in West Papua, giving them a distinct geographic origin. Their yellow coloration intensifies as they mature, becoming richer and more vibrant with proper care.

They were only scientifically described in 2005, making them a relatively newly recognized species. They are not rare in their native lowland range on Misool. However, it has only been recently that herpetoculturists have been producing these in captivity. Our captive breeding program has been producing these with consistency every year, making true captive bred reisingeri a new norm.

Yellow Tree Monitors are carnivorous, feeding every other day on a varied rotating diet. We alternate between gut loaded crickets and dubia roaches, day old quail, scrambled eggs (unseasoned), superworms, hornworms, and silkworms. All insects should be gut loaded with fresh organic vegetables 24 hours before feeding and dusted with calcium powder, rotating between pure calcium and calcium with D3.
